Mazaa

Pakistani Kebab Place, Stockport Rd.

August 2010
Another first for us and all in the name of exploration. Mazaa was recommended to us sometime ago but we only recently found it after breaking away from our usual haunts and heading up the A6. There's a cracking little stretch down here in Longsight - heading out of town a short distance past the Apollo. Mazaa is another in the same vein as Lazeeza and Saajan - kebab heavy but with curries on offer. The bread was not from a clay oven so the naan was perhaps a bit too soft, but that's a matter of preference. It was certainly fresh and robust enough to contain the decent portion of lamb tikka and salad. The chicken doner (pictured) was excellent - really tasty and oddly enough quite subtly flavoured. The salad and sauce didn't really set us alight with interest but they were serviceable and fine.  The one slight gripe here was getting short changed at the end. It's a bit annoying and happens every so often on our travels - it was a bit of a let-down and a paticular shame as Mazaa had been really good up until this point - it left a slightly bitter feeling about an otherwise good experience. This may sound harsh as it might have been an honest mistake - though if it happens to you a few times you begin to recognise the signs and that it was done in exactly the same way to more than one of us, each paying separately made it even less likely that it was by accident - just to clarify, as soon as we noticed the mistake the correct change was given back to us with no complaint. Greatest apologies to Mazaa if it was not deliberate.

  1. Mazaa is my new fave place, replacing al safa. Shame they dont have a tv and they do occasionally get the change wrong, but i usually round up so i am not so bothered. Some of the staff are friendly and some are not and they never grumble about a jug of water unlike al safa. Also the police are always there ordering dinner so it must be good.

  2. The kebabs are terrible but the donuts are fantastic.
