High St, opposite the Arndale Centre
The English Lounge is a rather smart city centre pub. There is a lot of dark wood and leather sofas, and the place has a nice layout with a few different nooks for hiding away. There are usually at three of four beers on handpump, with the Copper Dragon Golden Pippin being the best on offer for this trip. The food here is very good. The standout dish was fried snapper, which was excellent - perfectly cooked with a salty taste. This is a good pub to get away from the shopping crowds. The quality food makes it an ideal place for a hearty lunch. However, this also works as a drinking pub because of the ales available and the handsome look of the place.
